Dong Qichang, is a cultural master who is a calligrapher, painter, calligraphy and painting theorist, and connoisseur. Living in the late Ming Dynasty, despite the ups and downs in his official career, he always devoted himself to art with sincere love. In the field of calligraphy, he followed the traditions of the Jin and Tang dynasties, absorbing the essence of famous masters such as Wang Xizhi and Yan Zhenqing, and integrating his unique understanding of charm and composition; in painting, his “Theory of Northern and Southern Schools” had a profound impact. He advocated the plain and innocent style of the Southern School literati paintings. It not only follows the traditional calligraphy composition but also has Dong Qichang's unique sparse and scattered temperament. The ink color is appropriately light and dark. After years of immersion, part of the ink color is slightly gloomy, but it adds more ancient and elegant charm. Although the paper has traces of years of mottling, it does not damage the spirit of the brush and ink. 墨色温润，在洒金宣纸上晕染出古雅意韵。笔画提按使转间，藏锋与露锋灵活切换，如“松子古度” 四字，“松” 字起笔稍重，笔画挺拔如松干；“子” 字灵动，似松间跃动的光影 。字体形态欹正相生，大小错落，“森梢百顷” 中 “森” 字笔画繁密却不显拥塞，“百顷” 二字简约疏朗，形成奇妙的疏密节奏。
The calligraphy with a gentle ink color, creating an ancient and elegant charm on the gold - splashed rice paper. Between the lifting, pressing, turning and changing of the strokes, the hidden and exposed fronts are flexibly switched. For example, in the four characters “Song Zi Gu Du” (Pine Seed Ancient Measure), the starting stroke of the character “Song” (pine) is slightly heavy, and the stroke is as straight as a pine trunk; the character “Zi” (seed) is flexible, like the light and shadow jumping among the pines. The font forms are interspersed with upright and slanting, and the sizes are scattered. In “Sen Shao Bai Qing” (Hundred Hectares of Dense Tips), although the character “Sen” (dense) has many strokes, it does not appear crowded. The two characters “Bai Qing” (hundred hectares) are simple and sparse, forming a wonderful rhythm of density.
